New Westminster Rose Garden: Perfect for Your Wedding Ceremony!

New Westminster Rose Garden: Perfect for Your Wedding Ceremony!

Summer in Vancouver is the main event in our rainy city. We wait all year for summer and we always want to enjoy it as much as we can.

That’s why, if you are having a summer wedding in Vancouver or the Lower Mainland, you’ll want to make sure you take advantage of the beautiful weather and stunning scenery in Vancouver!

Beautiful parks and gardens abound in Vancouver and the Lower Mainland — many of which could be perfect for your summer wedding!

Favourite locations for Lower Mainland summer weddings include…

Queen Elizabeth Park in Vancouver — This huge, gorgeous park in the middle of the city features spectacular views, manicured gardens, beautiful Japanese-style water features, a restaurant and wedding pavilion for those who want to have their reception here too, plus countless stunning photo opportunities!

Stanley Park in Vancouver — Stanley Park is renowned worldwide for it’s huge old-growth forests, many beaches, pretty lagoons, winding trails, rose garden, lighthouse, and more! The photo opportunites don’t get much better than this. The stunning rose garden can be rented for ceremonies; many other locations can be used as well.

The Rose Garden at UBC — This beautiful, manicured formal rose garden is a lovely spot for a Vancouver wedding ceremony. The rose garden also features views of the north shore mountains and English Bay.

Park and Tilford Gardens in North Vancouver — This “hidden gem” is a surprisingly beautiful and tranquil spot right in the middle of a busy shopping mall area, flanked by a busy trucking route! The gorgeous gardens offer spectacular photo opportunites and many pretty locations for your ceremony. You may also hold a small reception at the very pretty — and inexpensive — Rose Room.

Queen’s Park New Westminster — The large, beautiful Queen’s Park features plenty of lovely spots for a ceremony and/or photos — plus a lovely rose garden in the centre of the park that can be reserved for your ceremony.

Langley Wedding Venues: The TRUTH about Newland’s

Monday, January 11th, 2010

Looking for an all-in-one wedding package at a Langley wedding venue?

One of the very best deals in the Lower Mainland is Newland’s Golf and Country Club, located in Langley, BC.

This Langley wedding venue boasts an extremely popular “Club Wed” wedding package with truly amazing deals that include everything you could possibly think of for your all-in-one wedding, from wedding and reception locations to flowers, photography, decorations, tux rentals… you name it!

Newland's "Conservatory Ballroom"

Langley wedding venues: Newland's

Some people may consider Newland’s a bit of a “wedding factory” — and the truth is, it absolutely IS a wedding factory.

But that’s what makes Newland’s such a great deal: Their Club Wed wedding factory is like a well-oiled wedding machine. They’ve got a great wedding system in place — and they have their systems down-pat. Newland’s knowledgable staff will ensure that every detail of your wedding is taken care of. There will be no hiccups or last-minute problems. These guys know what they are doing.

Of course, there are drawbacks. This Langley weddig venue is housed in a ’60s building that looks a little dated. Many of the ballrooms are kind of dark and characterless, with the exception of the “Conservatory Ballroom” (depicted above).

But the real drawback is that Newland’s does multiple weddings on the same day (as any good wedding factory will do).

But if you can overlook some of these details, you can wind up with an all-in-one Langley wedding venue that’s affordable, easy, and remarkably complete.

The Bloedel Conservatory

The Bloedel Conservatory

If you’ve lived in Vancouver or the Lower Mainland for any length of time, then you might be familiar with the unique, dome-shaped Bloedel Conservatory, located at the peak of Queen Elizabeth Park.

The Bloedel Conservatory is filled with lush tropical plants, koi ponds, and over 100 birds of various species fly free in this unusual space!

And if you’re planning your wedding, you may know that the Bloedel Conservatory is a well-known Vancouver wedding venue!

Well, now it looks as though this landmark facility is going to be shut down due to budget cuts! The BloedelConservatory celebrated its 40th anniversary today… but its future is grim.

If you’ve always wanted to use the Bloedel Conservatory as for your wedding ceremony, you can still help! Go to http://friendsofthebloedel.ca and sign the petition to save this popular Vancouver wedding venue — maybe in time for your wedding ceremony!

Queen Elizabeth Park Pavilion

Queen Elizabeth Park Pavilion

Did you know there’s a brand-new Vancouver wedding venue for wedding ceremonies and receptions in Queen Elizabeth Park?

Long home to a number of wedding ceremonies and plenty of wedding photography each wedding season, the beautiful gardens at Vancouver’s Queen Elizabeth Park can now be enjoyed with the conveniece of a covered ceremony and/or reception facility at the peak of the park!

The new Vancouver wedding venue is small, unique, and charming. It is much better suited to a ceremony than a reception, as it is rented by the hour and priced accordingly. However, the small room opens up onto an outside deck that will allow for more than the 100 people who are said to be able to fit into this little room (sounds like a tight squeeze!).

The new “Celebration Pavilion” at Queen Elizabeth Park is already proving to be an extremely popular Vancouver wedding venue, so you’ll have to book very early to get the date you want during peak season!

Vancouver Wedding Ceremony Venues: Your Local Park!

Monday, November 2nd, 2009

Looking for a great Vancouver wedding ceremony Venue? Try your local park!

But if you’re having your Vancouver wedding ceremony at a Lower Mainland park, there are a few things you’ll need to consider…

First of all, almost all of the different municipalities have different rules about what you are and are not allowed to do on park land.

Some parks restrict the number of people who can attend your Vancouver wedding ceremony.

Some parks will not let you reserve park area for your ceremony, while others will charge for reservations.

Some parks will not let you set up any chairs or tents, while others will allow you to bring a few chairs.

Of course, these are important considerations when planning your Vancouver wedding ceremony in a local park! What will you do if it rains, as it so often does in Vancouver? What will guests do if they have trouble standing for long periods of time (i.e., elderly, disabled, or pregnant guests)?

However, there are a great many ceremonies each year in Vancouver and Lower Mainland parks — and there are many beautiful parks to choose from.

Lower Mainland Wedding Chapels

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

Some people want to have a formal church wedding; others want to have a marriage commissioner show up at their event and get the ceremony out of the way so they can get to the party! ;)

But for either type of bride, you may want to consider using a cute, very wedding-y Lower Mainland wedding chapel as an option.Imagine saying your vows in this cute wedding chapel!

There are some wedding venues around Vancouver and the Lower Mainland that actually have on-site wedding chapels that you can use on your big day.

And after you say your vows, you can just stroll a few feet over to the reception area!

The great thing about a Lower Mainland wedding chapel is that they’re a little less formal than a big church. They can be non-denominational (you can usual bring in any officiant you want, including a marriage commissioner) and they tend to be cute, fun, and lively places to say your vows.

You can check out more examples of Lower Mainland wedding chapels  at www.myperfectwedding.ca.

Vancouver ceremony and reception mansion

Vancouver wedding venue: Heritage Mansion

Imagine if your Vancouver wedding venue was a gorgeous heritage mansion. Imagine having the entire, sprawling heritage mansion to yourself, including the beautifully manicured garden, the various rooms, the huge fireplace area…

Imagine if this Vancouver wedding venue was only a couple of blocks from a fabulous beach with some of the best sunset views in town — (perfect for your photos!).

Well… the stunning heritage mansion in this photo offers all of the above.

But here’s the catch. You won’t find this Vancouver wedding venue listed in any online wedding directories (except ours ;)  You won’t find mention of this Vancouver wedding venue among all the hotels, golf courses, and recognizable wedding venue names out there.

And that’s because this heritage mansion isn’t in the habit of doing weddings all the time. But YES, they do host weddings! And they can offer the PERFECT set-up for your intimate, elegant, family-style but formal event. Along with a fabulous outdoor garden area — perfect for your ceremony or pre-dinner drinks.

The key when finding your perfect Vancouver wedding venue is to think creatively. Approach places that don’t necessarily advertise themselves as wedding venues, first and foremost.

Lower Mainland Wedding Venues: Golf Course weddings

Saturday, October 17th, 2009

So you’re getting married… Congratulations! :) Okay, but now you’re starting to feel the pressure. WHERE is the perfect Lower Mainland wedding venue to have your ceremony and reception?

Many brides resort to thinking about using golf courses in as a Lower Mainland wedding venue. And there are many good reasons why…

Golf course weddings are pretty, if you like the manicured, conservative look of a golf green and the surrounding gardens prevalent at most golf courses.

Most golf course weddings take place in banquet rooms in the club house — most of which are pretty nice, if a little bland.

Most golf course weddings are catered by the facility, and typically, the staff and kitchen know how to put on an event smoothly.

Brides who decide on a golf course wedding in Vancouver and the Lower Mainland are typically well taken care of. There are typically designated spots for photos, often a gazebo, and usually a pretty garden area. In many ways, a golf course wedding is a “no brainer” when you’re looking for a relatively hassle-free venue as your Lower Mainland wedding venue.

HOWEVER… there are also drawbacks to having a golf course wedding and reception.

For example, most golf course weddings in Vancouver and the Lower Mainland are pretty expensive… The golf course will provide all the alcohol for your event, which of course will drive the cost up exponentially. And the cost of catering at many golf courses is on the pricey side.

Plus… well, there are a few select golf courses out there that really do a lovely job for weddings. There are a handful that offer really good package deals. There are some that are very pretty. But often, a golf course wedding and reception is just not that… imaginative.

That’s why we’ve focused on finding truly unique Lower Mainland wedding venues — from funky, artsy, out-of-the-way warehouse spaces to quaint, beautiful B&B’s; stunning heritage mansions; regal, elegant ballrooms; lush gardens with pretty gazebos; and more…

Of course, we’ve checked out plenty of golf course weddings too. But if you want to discover dozens of truly unique Lower Mainland wedding venues – including the best golf courses! — go to www.myperfectwedding.ca today!
